To place featured articles on the front page:

1. Open Menu of where you want feature articles to appear.
2. Menu item type -> select Article -> featured article
3. Select advanced options
4. Category Order -> no order
5. Article Order ->Most recent first.

The above will allow the most recently published article that is featured to appear at the top of the page.
