Hello, my name is Clownie.  I have always wanted to join the circus as a clown. My eyes light up with stars and doggies every time I think about the circus.  My nose is a bright red bulb just like the circus clowns.  Unlike some clowns I have seen, my mouth is always in a smile.  I would would never stop smiling if I could just be a clown.  My hair is braided in shades of orange and pink.  Very cheerful for a clown.  I would be one of the happiest Giddies if I could just be a clown in the circus.

As a Child I remember going to the circus every fall.  Usually it was indoors, but once it was outside under tents.  There was saw dust on the ground.  The seats inside the tent were wooden benches. Just like one sees in the movies.

The acts were the same whether indoors or under the tent.  There were ladies on bareback horses.  Standing up and doing acrobatics.  Elephants that could stand on balls.  But what I liked best were the clowns.  Some would come out and spray water on each other (it was really confetti).  Then a small car would come to the middle of the stage and clowns would start coming out of the car.  They never seemed to stop coming.  I know I would never be able to get that many clowns into one small car.  I enjoyed the clowns the most.

My small giddy of about 4" by 6" with the fun eyes and hair brings back those memories to me.

Books have always been an important part of my life.  When I was a child, receiving one's own library card was considered a rite of passage.  To this day, I still enjoy books and reading.

Flowers are also important to me.  This hand knitted bookmark is an attempt to combine my love of reading with my love of flowers.

I have recently learned how to tat. I learned the elementary techniques.  Now I want to build a chest of techniques and patterns I can use to create collage and designs. I will be posting designs I have aleady created and ones I will create in the future.

Bobbin Lace TechniquesBobbin Lace

This is an example of torchin bobbin lace.  In the example to the left bobbins are used in pairs. The pairs on the left side are hung - each on a pin. One set of bobbins are hung on a pin to the left of center. This set of bobbins is woven to the left through the bobbins already hung.  Once the left side is reached a second set of bobbins is added and woven from right to left. This example becomes much more complicated from here.  When one looks to the left one will see a piece of white paper.  This white paper is a pricking. The pricking has holes for where the pins should be placed. There are 7 sets of bobbins hanging in this example. This illustrates the explanation above.

Three different tatting techniquesTatting

Tatting is done with a shuttle. It can be done with either a ball of thread and a shuttle or two shuttles.  One of the shuttles is used to create knots over the other thread.  As the thread is knotted it is made into interesting shapes.

The three hanging ornaments to the left are knitted are double pointed needles. They were stuffed as the pieces were knitted. This way the piece does not need to be sewn together after it is completed.

The flower with the long tail is a book mark. It is also knitted on double pointed needles without the need to do a lot of sewing.  The piece is knitted from the bottom of the tail up. The only item sewn on this piece is the button at the top. This allows for making of many creative book marks.
